So I decided to go with Warby Parker since they have frames + anti-reflective lenses for a whopping $95, plus some sweet deal of free shipping, free returns, and home try-on. I had done home try-on a few months back but didn't loove anything. I also checked some out in person when they had a corner in Stel's (which has since closed). Then they came out with their fall collection and I pulled the trigger on the Linwood in striped chestnut.

four eyes
In addition to the sheers and curtain rings, some new glasses were waiting for me when we returned from Barcelona a few weeks back. Since I already have two pairs which I wear regularly, I didn't feel the need to get too spendy with new glasses, but had an allowance through vision insurance. Free money? Yes please.

pretty things
I feel a little silly saying it, but my watch makes me so happy!! I find myself just looking at it and smiling. You really can't tell in the photo, but the face is actually white mother of pearl and has a subtle iridescence to it. So pretty.
I just indulged in a little online shopping, but I blame work. Upcoming travel has made my need for new flats very real. My old ones were put to rest after essentially drowning in a rainstorm (sad!) And well, sprinting through the airport in heels just doesn't cut it for me (getting there early and walking slowly doesn't work either). Thanks to the free shipping/ free returns policy at shoes.com and Piperlime, I have a nice little selection coming my way! And I may have thrown in a pair of heels...oops.
Been listening to the Burlesque soundtrack. I watched the film this week and loved it! The story is nothing amazing, but Christina is truly talented and just so much fun to watch.
Today I spent a little time brainstorming new PROnailz shirts.. it quickly turned into arts & crafts time, and voilĂ ! a new tank was born. Please meet the groper (somewhat inspired by Christina's costume for Express):

Sooo excited to have brunch tomorrow with Shimmy and friends. Fried chicken & waffles, my stomach will be dreaming of you tonight.

glam
I finally got around to ordering my watch and it arrived today in all its ohsofabulous glory... And I love it!

After weeks of unsolved fatigue, I'm finally starting to feel like myself again (and hopefully I'm not jinxing myself by saying that!) It was a pretty good day today... not so freezing, way too many donuts at work (thank you Jason), lots of green tea chai, and some quality time at home with my lovely new watch, last night's Glee (armwarmers!), and nibbles of sauteed mushrooms, pimento olives, Gorgonzola cheese, and pineapple tidbits. Yum!
As the pieces fall into place, I might actually begin posting pictures of my little home. I leave you with a glimpse of a fuzzy corner of my living room...

it's time
I feel like I've finally had time at home to get life in order, which is probably why I've posted so much in the past few days. I slept so long yesterday (I was still in bed at this time) so the day wasn't the most productive. But so far today I did some cleaning and vacuuming (all those little fabric scraps are disappeared) and made some craigslist sales (hooray for clearing the clutter), and did some online shopping...
Been in love with oversized watches for years, so much that my last watch was actually a men's Kenneth Cole. I stopped wearing it about a year ago as it was less "me" and have recently started scouting new options. I think I'm leaning towards a Kors...

Think I want the one on the left...
I'll sleep on it. Time to restock the kitchen. Trader Joe's, here I come!

on short hair

I've had an on-again and off-again relationship with short hair since 8th grade, mostly staying true to the short over the past several years. As I attempt to grow it out, I find myself missing it, feeling a little more bland, noticing women with great short hair.
I stumbled across this piece from Vogue, c1988 ON SHORT HAIR, which speaks to exactly the feelings I'm beginning to miss...
"Women with short hair always look as if they have somewhere else to go... Once you have cut your hair you have to remember to wear lipstick, but you can put away the brush, elastics, and the black barrettes... With short hair you begin to crave pearl necklaces, long earrings, and a variety of sunglasses. And you brush your teeth more often. Short hair removes obvious femininity and replaces it with style... Short hair makes you aware of subtraction as style. You can no longer wear puffed sleeves or ruffles; the neat is suddenly preferable to the fussy. You eye the tweezers instead of the blusher. What else can you take away? You can’t hide behind short hair... You may look a little androgynous, a little unfinished, a little bare. You will look elegant... Short hair makes others think you have good bones, determination, and an agenda. The shape of your skull is commented on, so are its contents... your face is no longer a flat screen surrounded by a curtain: the world sees you in three dimensions."
I'm still going to give long hair a chance, but if I don't develop a love affair with long locks, it's right back to short.

august
New month. New zip code, new housemate, new hair, new shoes.
Spent the morning trying to organize. Finally pulled it together enough to get out of the house and go shopping with Jason. It was a beautiful day, and it felt good to be out without an agenda. Felt even better to not feel guilty about it. Bought shoes by accident and hung out with Neptune and the ladies in the Commons. It was weird parting ways at Park.

I thought my evening was basically over, but I was wrong. 10pm turned into an excursion back towards Inman Square with Johnny. I had been told of Trina's Starlite Lounge by two unrelated individuals on two separate occasions within the past month, so we just had to check it out.
Was nice to wander through my old neighborhood, but this time we actually stopped by the shady looking Miller High Life sign. The interior was surprisingly pleasant and the food amazing. We got chili fries to start, followed by their fried chicken and waffles, served with hot pepper syrup. Highly recommend both. Will have to return to try the drinks.

Filled to the brim, we followed the dinosaur cartoons home. Along the way I learned where to get a 5cent dirty movie or some mega hair.

So far, August has been pretty good. Homelessness (in the mildest form possible) is not so bad. Big day tomorrow.

cleanse
Taking a break from packing up my life, I (rather appropriately) came across this article. Made me wonder if I could do it - go about my daily life with only six articles of clothing. I rotate through staples quite frequently, but they fall into categories of work clothes, dance clothes, bum/play clothes, and going out.. does it still count if I have six pieces of clothing in each category? No, that's totally cheating. But would be an interesting exercise.
A few things stood out to me:
1) Really, nobody noticed? I feel at least the people you see most days (coworkers, close friends) would eventually catch on.
2) "women, on average, own seven pairs of jeans but wear only four regularly... One in four women asked by the magazine said she owned 10 pairs or more." Okay fine I can believe the ratio. But is owning more than 10 pairs really so uncommon / outlandish? I think I own closer to 20. And probably wear about 4. Granted, the number actually worn has been on the decline, as I have recently found jeans to be more much more boring and restrictive - both physically and in terms of versatility - than other bottom-wear options.
3) And this is my favorite... "Addy, from Milwaukee, wrote that she had become so bored with her six items 'that I don’t even have a desire to get up in the morning,' and she complained of mood swings." HAHA! I love it. But secretly, it scares me, because I feel I might react the same way. Or I might feel completely liberated.
I don't quite feel compelled to try this myself, maybe because I feel my wardrobe size can be justified by savvy shopping and lots of hand-me-downs from my mom and sister. Plus I have trouble getting rid of stuff.
All of this will be good to keep in the back of my brain as I enter this next month with a limited wardrobe and limited access to all my stuff. Moving is such a pain, but sometimes the purge really is just so painfully good. Maybe I can think more clearly without all the clutter.
