home additions

This month we welcome two new additions to the home! The first is temporary.. meet our (fake) Christmas tree! I think it's pretty cute, and yes sitting on a table; I guess tall ceilings make things appear short. (The night shot also shows a glimpse of our new and very functional c-table.)

And now meet our more permanent addition, my long-anticipated and much searched for mid-century dresser. Thanks to zipcar, the resident muscles, and the powerful duo Pledge and Windex, this glass-topped retro beauty sits gloriously in the bedroom. (And check out the cute penguin we got too!) Love.

more laughtons

Baby brother got married last weekend. I only took 3 pictures the whole trip (not good!), but this one is so happy. More to come from the photographers. Welcome to the family, Jess!

guru

One of my many roles at work is "Recruiting Manager". Thanks to our recent website update, I receive a lot of interesting emails & solicitations. Here's the opening line from my favorite message of the day:

ps. I'm realizing November passed without a single post! I will get better at this.. pre-new year's resolution

dreaming of chevrons

I have been itching to repaint the bathrooms, since the color I picked last year just looks tired with the existing tile. I've spent weeks poking around for inspiration, and have somewhat settled on the idea of painting chevrons (and likely in a similar color!)

(inspiration from an Apartment Therapy house tour)

Not sure yet if it's worth the effort...

wedding season

As I prepare for Liz's wedding this weekend, this post takes on special meaning. No, her wedding is not going to be at home, and will actually have a drastically different feel. But the story conveys the importance of having loved ones around - a good reminder that all the craziness is just stuff, while the relevant part is celebrating love.

This reminds me I still haven't posted about my sister's wedding. There are SO many photos to go through. As a snapshot, here's the "post show report" she put together:

DIY closet revamp

Home improvement continues!

It's not exciting to photo-document, but new faucet aerators make a tremendous difference.

More visually interesting: A while back I was inspired by
this post on Apartment Therapy for converting bi-fold closet doors into French doors:

I'm almost done with my version, which is taking longer than anticipated, but I guess DIY is always a learning process. Photos of mine to come soon. Excited!

sneak peek!

It's been a productive week of home redecorating, rearranging, and cleaning. Photo below of the reinvented guest room / office! Before photo from the previous owner. After photo is mostly the result of the past few days. Some tweaking is in order, but this is pretty much it!

venezia photodiary {finally}

Cooped up at home selling furniture and waiting for Irene to pass (if the storm ever really hits), I finally feel I have the time to post about Venice!

We went right after Prague for a quick whirlwind of a weekend trip. I hadn't really done any research, just knew to expect to walk a lot and get lost most of the time.

We found a great B&B, Barababao, which is a family-operated spot with just a few rental rooms and an amazing restaurant on the first floor. We had dinner there twice.. the most memorable being spaghetti with clams and huge grafts of house wine. Yum!
